The Role
This is a senior, hands-on role at the intersection of design, frontend engineering, and product thinking. You’ll work closely with product, engineering, and leadership to turn complex AI-driven insights into clear, intuitive, and trustworthy user experiences.
This role is not about “making things pretty.” It’s about making complex systems feel simple, grounded, and reliable — especially for CFOs making high-stakes decisions.
What You’ll Do
Own and elevate the overall product experience across systemzero
Design and implement high-quality frontend interfaces for complex, data-dense workflows
Translate ambiguous product ideas into clear interaction models and UI patterns
Build and maintain a cohesive component system that balances speed and quality
Define interaction patterns, layout systems, and visual hierarchy across the product
Work closely with engineers to ensure design intent is preserved in production
Collaborate with product to shape workflows, not just screens
Improve the way AI-generated insights are presented, explained, and trusted
Reduce UX debt and increase consistency as the product scales
Set a high bar for frontend craftsmanship through example and mentorship
What We’re Looking For
Core Profile
6–10+ years of experience in frontend engineering, design engineering, or similar roles
Strong production experience with React and TypeScript
Proven ability to ship polished, real-world product experiences
Deep understanding of interaction design, layout, typography, and UI systems
Strong product instincts — you think in workflows, not mockups
Ability to explain and defend design decisions with clarity and reasoning
Design × Engineering Balance
You are equally comfortable:
designing interactions
writing production frontend code
iterating quickly based on feedback
You care deeply about details, but don’t block shipping
You understand where polish matters — and where it doesn’t
You can operate without a rigid design handoff process
Mindset & Way of Working
Strong bias to action — you ship, iterate, and refine
Comfortable operating in ambiguity and early-stage environments
Low ego, high ownership
Thoughtful communicator who collaborates well across disciplines
Energized by building foundational product experiences, not just optimizing mature ones
Not looking for a process-heavy, highly structured environment
If you’re expecting pixel-perfect specs, long design cycles, or clear handoffs, this role is probably not a good fit.
Nice to Have
Previous experience as a founding engineer or early employee at a startup (especially in B2B SaaS), demonstrating ability to build from scratch and adapt quickly
Prior exposure to financial systems or Office of the CFO domains (e.g. FP&A, accounting, business analytics).
What We Offer
The opportunity to build a category-defining product for CFOs and finance teams, tackling important problems in a huge industry.
Deep, hands-on exposure to applied AI systems in a real production environment (this is a chance to push the state-of-the-art in practice, not just in theory).
A high-trust, senior team with strong technical taste and a collaborative, low-ego culture. You’ll be working with humble but world-class talent that values learning and growth.
Real ownership and influence over architecture and product direction – your ideas will shape the product and company.
Competitive compensation, startup equity, and benefits.
A hybrid work setup with flexible remote scheduling and intentional in-person collaboration. (We have a coworking space and get together ~2-3 days a week to whiteboard, pair program, and have fun as a team.)
